in this parking area. neighbors pointed the area out to us and we found crime scene tape here as well. here's what police say happened next. >> they were trying to approach him to make contact with him. shots -- a shot was fired and the officer felt that he was in danger at that point and responded to that shot firing several rounds. >> reporter: but what exactly happened is not known for sure. police say the man, 28-year-old owe livier cohen -- olivier cohen was spotted with a rifle. it's unclear if he shot at the officers or that single shot heard was that of cohen shooting himself. still the officer felt the need to protect himself. >> the gunshot was heard by the officers that were responding and at this point everything of that nature is still under investigation by our criminal investigation division and some of those determinations are yet to be made. >> reporter: cohen was pronounced dead at the scene. the officer was not hit. the scene outside the cohen home in germantown friends of the family told us off camera that they have a hard time believing cohen would have attempted to harm a pol

and a look at the week ahead coming up in just a little bit. stick with us for that. >> let's check in with julie wright. she has the latest on the traffic situation out there. >> good morning to you all. we are talking about loudoun county. before a serious crash that popped up on us along route 9 out at hamilton station road. we are told that the highway is blocked off in each direction. that is route 9 at hamilton station road currently closed because of an accident. for those that are traveling along northbound i-95 here in lorton, nice, easy commute continuing up towards the beltway. no problems to report on the beltway leading annandale to merrifield and you will fine that traveling at the wilson bridge, all lanes are open and traffic is running smoothly there. top side of beltway, the outer loop as you work your way around from 650 new hampshire avenue and continue to silver spring, light traffic volume there as well. you will find lanes are open coming southbound as you travel from 109 out towards the split. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >>> it appears the ea

currents along the eastern seaboard. >>> let's check in on our forecast here. tonydowns us once again. should be pretty nice. >> just want to mention in terms of igor and bermuda. although the eye of the storm did not pass over bermuda, still, bermuda got quite an impact from igor and we don't want to minimalize that. wind blowing up to 93 miles per hour on that island. so problems there. we'll show you igor in just a moment. we'll show you the local satellite-radar. it can be seen in some of our satellite-radars for the mid atlantic and the northeastern united states. for us here this morning, a few clouds coming through here and there but for the most part, clear skies. we are going to see mostly sunny skies for the day today. nothing in the way of precipitation even know a cold frontal boundary came through not too long ago. it produced no rain nor were we expecting it to. current temperatures, 70 degrees in washington. 66 at patuxent naval air station. # 7 at dulles airport. 67 in baltimore. your bus stop forecast for this morning, temperatures primarily in the mid-60s to about 70
